Landing Gear Repair in Houston, TX

Bent, seized or sheared landing gear repaired in the yard.

Landing gear damage is a yard problem far more often than a road problem, and it has a way of turning a routine drop into a trailer nobody can move. Energy Transport Solutions repairs bent, seized and sheared landing gear on site across the Houston-to-Conroe corridor.

What we work on

  • Bent legs — from drops on uneven ground, misjudged manoeuvres and contact damage
  • Seized gearboxes — units that will not crank, or crank with far more effort than they should
  • Sheared and stripped hardware — shafts, gears and crank mechanisms that have given up
  • Damaged feet and pads — including the sand shoes that take the punishment on soft ground
  • Bracing and mounts — the structure that fails after the leg has been running damaged
  • Crank handles and linkage — the small parts that make the gear usable

How it usually happens

Very little landing gear damage occurs at speed. It happens dropping a trailer on ground that is not level, on soft ground after rain, or on a surface with a slope that was not obvious until the weight went on. It happens when a leg is cranked under load it was not meant to take. And it happens in increments — a leg that got bent slightly six months ago is the one that shears later.

Gulf Coast weather contributes in a specific way: rain softens yard surfaces, and a trailer dropped on ground that is firm one week and soft the next puts asymmetric load through gear that was designed for even ground. Yards that drain poorly produce more landing gear work than yards that drain well.

The seized gearbox is the other common story, and that one is almost always deferred maintenance. Gear that is getting harder to crank is telling you something, and the point at which it stops entirely is rarely convenient.

Why it strands trailers

A trailer with failed landing gear cannot be dropped or picked up safely, which means it occupies whatever space it is in and blocks whatever is behind it. Unlike most trailer faults, the trailer usually cannot be relocated to somewhere more convenient first — the fault is precisely what prevents that.

That is why this is on-site work by nature. We come to the trailer because the trailer is not going anywhere.

Serving Houston to Conroe and nearby

We cover the yards and terminals on Houston's north side, the industrial ring around Loop 336 and the energy-services yards along SH-105 in Conroe, plus Spring, The Woodlands, Willis, Humble, New Caney, Tomball, Magnolia and Cypress.

If the gear is getting hard to crank rather than already failed, say so when you call. Catching it at that stage is a straightforward repair on your schedule, rather than a blocked bay and an unmovable trailer on someone else's.

Frequently Asked Questions

The landing gear will not crank at all and the trailer is blocking a bay. What now?

Call and tell us where it is and what the gear does — nothing at all, partial travel, or crank with excessive force. This is on-site work by definition, because the fault is exactly what stops the trailer being moved somewhere more convenient.

One leg is bent but it still works. Does it need doing now?

Sooner rather than later. A bent leg carries load unevenly and puts stress through the gearbox and bracing, which is why bent legs become sheared legs. Repairing it while the trailer is still movable is much simpler than after.

Can bent landing gear be repaired or does it need replacing?

Depends on the extent and where the damage is. Some bends are repairable; significant structural damage or a sheared shaft usually means replacement. Describe what you can see and we will give you a realistic expectation before we come out.

Why does our yard keep damaging landing gear?

Usually the ground. Trailers dropped on surfaces that are uneven, sloped or soft after rain put asymmetric load through gear designed for level ground. Yards that drain poorly generate noticeably more of this work, and the fix is often drainage rather than hardware.
